Description
This writing journal is great for reinforcing writing skills that students have already learned. By completing this journal, students will practice a variety of these skills.
This resource contains 16 pages of writing activities for the month of January. Activities included can be used for morning work, writing workshop, writing centers or homework. The journal contains 2 variations for each type of activity. There are two files included in this download: a journal with primary lines and a journal with single lines. 9 of the writing pages include writing conventions to remind students to proofread for letter capitalization, spaces between words, punctuation and neatness.
This writing journal includes the following activities:
Labeling: Students will label the parts of the picture provided. They are encouraged to stretch out the words to hear all the sounds when they are writing.
Picture Prompts: Students will look at the picture provided and write a few sentences about what they see.
Vocabulary Prompts: Students will write a few sentences using the vocabulary words provided on the page.
Would You Rather: Students will write a few sentences about which activity they would rather do – and explain why.
Vocabulary Words: Students will pick a word from the January Vocabulary Words page and write 2-3 sentences, then draw a matching picture.
How-To Writing: Students will look at the picture prompts and write the steps to complete the pictured activity.
Blank Pages: These blank pages can be used to allow the students to write independently or write about a certain topic provided by the teacher.
This resource was designed with first grade students in mind but can be adapted for other grade levels as well.
