Memorial Day Craft and Song for Kids

Materials

• Twine
• Mod Podge
• 3 Glass Jars
• White Paper
• Painters Tape
• Foam Brushes
• Sanding Block
• Star Hole Puncher
• Flowers (fake or real)
• Paint (red, white, blue)

Directions

1. First paint your glass jars.

2. Be creative, if you want to add stripes paint your jar one color and then when it is dry use the painters tape to make stripes. Remove the painters tape before the paint completely dries.

3. When the paint is dry you can use the sanding block to give the jar a distressed look, I decided not to. Next I used the star hole puncher to cut out stars to put on the blue jar.

4. Use Mod Podge and a foam brush to glue the stars to the blue jar. I applied the Mod Podge first, the the stars, and then I put one more layer of Mod Podge on top.

5. Tie a bow at the top of each jar with twine.

6. Take your flowers and cut them the appropriate length so they fit in the jar.

The song we’re sharing today is named “Semper Fidelis” by American composer John Philip Sousa, we also learn about military marching.

Easy Mother’s Day Craft for Kids

Materials

• Plants
• Labels
• Craft Glue
• Foam Brush
• Acrylic Paint
• Aluminum Cans
• Ribbon, twine etc. for decorations
• Paper Bag or protective covering for table

Directions

1. Paint the the aluminum can. I painted one layer and let the can dry before adding a second layer.

2. Paint the top of the plant container. I did this because a portion of the plant container would be sticking out of the aluminum can. I did not plant the plant directly in the aluminum can to allow for proper drainage. However if you would like to do that, you can always drill a hole at the bottom of the pan.

3. When the paint is dry use the ribbon and other materials to decorate the flower can.

4. Place the plant container inside the aluminum can.
5. Add the label to the aluminum can.

My husband and I wrote a special Mother’s Day song to the tune of “Aura Lee” This is a sweet little song that is easy to sing. This song is not just mothers, but also grandmothers, aunties or other caretakers. The title of the song is “Sweetest Lady in my Life”.

Since we’re all stuck inside I wanted to think of an activity that utilizes items we already have around the house. Coffee filter crafts are quite common and so cute and easy to do! My husband loves coffee so we have plenty of coffee filters.

Easy Earth Day Craft & Simple Song

Materials

• Coffee Filters
• Washable Markers
• Spray Bottle with water
• Towel
• Paper Bag or protective covering for table

Directions

1. Place a paper grocery bag or protective covering over the table you are using if you want to keep marker from getting on the table.
2. Use your green marker to draw the land, the children can draw circles or squiggly shapes and then color them in. Remember that about 71% of the earth is water so the land should not take up too much space.

3. Use your blue marker and color in the rest of the coffee filter blue. This is not an art contest, it doesn’t have to be neat and if they do not stay in the lines that is okay.

4. Place your colored coffee filter on a towel or outside on the ground or on a plate. Spray the coffee filter lightly with water until every part is wet. When you spray the coffee filter the water the colors will bleed together creating a beautiful picture.

5. Lay out to dry.
6. Hang your coffee filter in the window for a “stained glass” effect.

My husband helped me find a song to go along with Earth Day. The title of the song is “The Earth is Our Mother”.
